Edition Peters

Edition Peters is one of the world’s most renowned classical music publishers, with a history dating back to 1800. Following World War II, the company was split into three independent branches in the US, UK, and Germany. In August 2010, these branches reunited under a single entity for the first time since the war, forming The Edition Peters Group. This significant moment called for a rebrand that both honoured the company’s heritage and signified its renewed global unity.

With such a rich legacy and an iconic presence in classical music publishing, the rebrand needed to carefully balance tradition with modernity. The new identity had to reflect Edition Peters’ deep roots in classical music while acknowledging its future as a unified global entity. The goal was to create a refined yet powerful brand identity that would resonate with musicians, composers, and music educators worldwide.

The logo redesign was intentionally minimal, drawing inspiration from the company’s historic branding while incorporating a key new element: the cities in which the company’s hubs were now based. This subtle but meaningful addition symbolised the new unity between the US, UK, and German branches.

Beyond the logo, the rebrand extended across a suite of printed materials, including:

  • Business cards
  • Compliment slips
  • Branded stationery
  • The design of Edition Peters’ iconic sheet music covers

The visual language remained elegant and timeless, in keeping with the brand’s classical music heritage, while introducing contemporary refinements that modernised the brand without losing its essence.

The rebrand was widely embraced by Edition Peters’ leadership, composers, and customers, reinforcing the company’s stature as a pillar of classical music publishing. The refined identity successfully unified the three branches, creating a cohesive and respected global brand.

This project also led to further collaborations, including work with Trinity Music, where I contributed to the branding of an entirely new syllabus of music for children, Rock & Pop. This initiative introduced a contemporary and accessible approach to music education, broadening the reach of both brands.

Working with the Edition Peters leadership team on this rebrand remains one of the proudest moments of my career. The project was more than just a logo refresh—it was a symbolic restoration of a legendary music publisher. Seeing how the rebrand helped reconnect the company’s legacy across continents was an incredibly rewarding experience.

In 2023, Wise Music Group acquired The Edition Peters Group, with Faber Music taking over its sheet music division, marking another pivotal moment in the company’s long and illustrious history.
